Anna Wintour to host Biden fundraiser amid Paris Fashion Week

Anna Wintour, the global chief content officer of Condé Nast and the editor-in-chief of Vogue, is planning to host a fundraising event for President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign during Paris Fashion Week. The event, which is scheduled for March 4th, is expected to attract some of the biggest names in the fashion and entertainment industries.

Anna Wintour: A longtime supporter of the Democrats

Anna Wintour is no stranger to the political scene, as she has been a longtime supporter and donor of the Democratic Party. She has hosted and attended several fundraisers for Democratic candidates, such as Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, and Kamala Harris. She has also used her platform and influence to advocate for causes such as LGBTQ+ rights, women’s empowerment, and climate change.

Wintour endorsed Joe Biden in a Vogue article in 2020, where she praised his character, experience, and compassion. She wrote: “He is unmistakably a man of character and has so many qualities that we are in desperately short supply of in Washington right now: decency, honor, compassion, trustworthiness, and best of all experience.” She also expressed her hope that Biden would restore America’s leadership and reputation in the world.

Wintour’s fundraiser for Biden is not the first time she has organized a political event during Paris Fashion Week. In 2016, she co-hosted a dinner for Hillary Clinton with Huma Abedin, Clinton’s longtime aide, at the home of American ambassador Jane Hartley. The dinner was attended by celebrities such as Diane von Furstenberg, Tory Burch, and Kendall Jenner.

Paris Fashion Week: A glamorous backdrop for the fundraiser

Paris Fashion Week, which runs from February 28th to March 8th, is one of the most prestigious and influential events in the fashion calendar. It showcases the latest collections and trends from some of the world’s leading designers and brands, such as Chanel, Dior, Louis Vuitton, and Balenciaga. It also attracts a host of celebrities, models, editors, and influencers, who flock to the French capital to attend the shows and parties.

Wintour’s fundraiser for Biden will take place on March 4th, which coincides with some of the most anticipated shows of the week, such as Lanvin, Rick Owens, Isabel Marant, and Off-White. The location and the guest list of the event have not been disclosed yet, but it is likely to be a star-studded affair, with high-profile attendees from both the fashion and the political worlds.

The event will also be an opportunity for Wintour to mingle with some of her friends and allies in the industry, such as Steven Kolb, the president and CEO of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), and Thom Browne, the acclaimed American designer. Both Kolb and Browne are co-hosting the fundraiser with Wintour, according to a report by Women’s Wear Daily.

Biden: A popular choice among the fashion elite

Biden, who took office in January 2021, has been a popular choice among the fashion elite, who have expressed their support and admiration for him and his administration. Biden has also appointed several fashion insiders to key positions in his government, such as Ella Emhoff, the stepdaughter of Vice President Kamala Harris and a budding model, who is working as an intern at the CFDA, and Carlos Elizondo, the former social secretary of Jill Biden and a former event planner for Vogue, who is now the White House social secretary.

Biden has also shown his appreciation for the fashion industry, by wearing outfits and accessories from American designers and brands, such as Ralph Lauren, Gabriela Hearst, and Tom Ford. He has also featured on the cover of Vogue, along with his wife Jill Biden, in a photo shoot by Annie Leibovitz.

Biden’s fundraiser in Paris is part of his efforts to raise money and support for his reelection campaign in 2024, which he has already announced his intention to run for. According to the Federal Election Commission, Biden’s campaign raised over 1.5 billion dollars in 2020, surpassing the previous record set by Barack Obama in 2008.
