Vinicius Jr shines as Real Madrid beat Braga in Champions League

Real Madrid winger Vinicius Jr has returned to his best form after producing a fine performance to help his team claim a 2-1 win over Sporting Braga in the Champions League on Tuesday. The Brazilian, who assisted Jude Bellingham’s goal, was named man of the match as he helped Madrid keep three points clear at the top of Group C.

Vinicius Jr sustained a hamstring injury in August and was sidelined for a month. He missed four games for Real Madrid, including the first two Champions League matches against Napoli and Union Berlin. He made his comeback in the 3-1 win over Valencia on October 15, scoring a goal and setting up another.

“He’s back to his best. He got the goal, which was ruled out by the narrowest of margins, and he made two assists for Rodrygo and Bellingham,” Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti said after the game. “He’s back, and he’s back in form. He made the difference today.”

Vinicius Jr links up with Bellingham

Vinicius Jr showed his chemistry with England midfielder Jude Bellingham, who scored his third goal in as many Champions League appearances for Real Madrid. The duo combined well with the ball and without it, creating chances and pressing the opposition.

“They (Bellingham and Vinicius Jr) work really well together with the ball and without it. We have to improve there but they’re both doing a great job,” Ancelotti said.

Bellingham, who joined Real Madrid from Borussia Dortmund in the summer, praised Vinicius Jr for his performance and his attitude. “He’s a fantastic player and a fantastic person. He works hard every day and he deserves all the success he’s having,” Bellingham said.

Vinicius Jr ready for El Clasico

Real Madrid, the record 14-time Champions League winners who lead in LaLiga with 25 points after 10 matches, play arch-rivals Barcelona on Saturday. Third-placed Barcelona trail Madrid by just one point.

“After this game, we know exactly what we need to do — everything we can to win it,” Ancelotti said. “We have time to get ready for it. We’re heading into this incredibly important game full of excitement.”

Vinicius Jr, who has scored six goals and provided four assists in 11 games this season, will be one of the key players for Real Madrid in the El Clasico. He has scored twice against Barcelona in his career, including a memorable goal in the 2-0 win at the Santiago Bernabeu in March 2020.
