NYFW AW24: Pantone Unveils Functional and Adaptable Colour Palette

Pantone, the global authority on colour, has unveiled the colour palette for the autumn/winter 2024 edition of New York Fashion Week (NYFW), which features a lively mix of functional and adaptable colours that reflect the consumers’ desire for longevity and seasonless style. The colour palette, which consists of 10 standout colours and five new core classics, is inspired by the natural world and the hybridized style of living.


A Balance Between the Familiar and the New

The colour palette for NYFW AW24 aims to strike a balance between the familiar and the new, offering a range of colours that are reliable and robust, as well as playful and energetic. The colours are characterized by a mix of elegance and practicality, linked to conscious consumption and slowing trend cycles.

“Colours for NYFW Autumn/Winter 2024/2025 strive for balance between the more familiar and the new and exciting, embracing longevity and seasonless style,” said Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute, in a press release. “Functional and adaptable, they are reliable and robust, servicing our increasingly hybridized style of living, providing a strong chromatic foundation and at the same time delivering playful and energetic accents for moments of magic.”

A Range of Environmentally Inspired Colours

The colour palette for NYFW AW24 highlights the consumers’ appetite for more organic hues, with a range of colours that are derived from natural pigments, opulent mid-tones, accessible neutrals, and universal greens. The colours are infused with an inherent richness and earthiness that connect to nature and the environment.

Some of the standout colours are:

  • PANTONE 19-1558 Scarlet Smile: A glamorous and decadent red that captures the consumers’ desire.
  • PANTONE 19-5421 Aventurine: A mineral-based teal tone that delivers richness and depth.
  • PANTONE 17-1464 Red Orange: A vibrant mix of red and orange tones that offers energy and empowerment.
  • PANTONE 16-0430 Fern: A leafy green hue that is rooted in the natural world and conveys a new expression of eco colour.
  • PANTONE 19-2514 Italian Plum: A deep dark purple that adds a touch of mystery and sophistication.

A Set of Honest Core Tones

The colour palette for NYFW AW24 also introduces a set of honest core tones that establish new pillars for the wardrobe. These colours are essential but not unexciting, offering a sense of stability and simplicity.

  • PANTONE 14-4500 Moonstruck: A shadowy grey hue that lives behind the clouds and exudes a serene mood.
  • PANTONE 14-4307 Winter Sky: A cooling blue hue that takes the breath away and has a calming effect.
  • PANTONE 11-0700 Lucent White: An optically brightened white that conveys effective simplicity and clarity.
  • PANTONE 18-0403 Dark Gull Gray: A solid and dense grey that is forever relevant and versatile.

A Source of Inspiration for Fashion Designers

The colour palette for NYFW AW24 is a source of inspiration for fashion designers, who will showcase their new autumn/winter collections at the fashion week, which will take place from February 9 to February 15, 2023. The fashion week, which will be a mix of physical and digital shows, will feature over 100 designers, including established names and emerging talents.

The colour palette for NYFW AW24 is based on the Pantone Fashion, Home + Interiors Color System, the most widely used and recognized colour standards system for fashion, textile, home, and interior design. The colours are also available in Pantone Connect, a digital platform that allows designers to access Pantone Colour Libraries and to create and share colour palettes.
