Supergoop, the skincare brand that focuses on SPF products, has named Lisa Sequino as its new chief executive officer. Sequino joins Supergoop from JLo Beauty, where she was the CEO. She has also held senior roles at Estee Lauder and Procter & Gamble.
Sequino brings experience and passion to Supergoop
Lisa Sequino has nearly two decades of experience in the beauty and personal care industry, working with both established and emerging brands. She was the CEO of JLo Beauty, the celebrity-backed skincare line that launched in January 2024. Before that, she spent nine years at the Estee Lauder Companies, where she led global strategy and growth for brands such as Tom Ford Beauty and Estee Lauder. She also worked at Procter & Gamble for 10 years, where she was involved in marketing, innovation, sales, and M&A.
Sequino said she was impressed by Supergoop’s vision, story, and mission, which is to change the way people think about sunscreen and to help prevent skin cancer. “I’ve long admired Holly’s vision, her authentic story, and the category she created nearly 20 years ago with Supergoop. The brand’s mission is a powerful one and they truly shifted consumer behaviour toward daily SPF use,” Sequino said in a press release.
Supergoop founder Holly Thaggard welcomes Sequino as a partner
Holly Thaggard founded Supergoop in 2005, after her friend was diagnosed with skin cancer. She wanted to create a sunscreen brand that would make SPF products more appealing and accessible to consumers. She started with a sunscreen for children, and then expanded to offer a range of SPF-infused skincare products for all ages and skin types.
Thaggard said she was thrilled to have Sequino as a partner, as she brings a lot of experience and perspective to the table. “But most importantly, she fully understands and is passionate about our mission, which is to change the way the world thinks about sunscreen through innovation and inspiration––and ultimately to help stop the epidemic of skin cancer,” Thaggard said.
Thaggard will remain involved in the brand as the founder and chief creative officer, focusing on product development and innovation.
Supergoop plans to continue its growth and expansion
Sequino’s appointment comes at a time when Supergoop is experiencing rapid growth and expansion. The brand launched in more than 20 new markets in 2023, including Canada, Australia, and the UK. It also introduced several new products, such as the Glowscreen Body SPF 40, the Daily Dose Vitamin C + SPF 40 Serum, and the Bright-Eyed 100% Mineral Eye Cream SPF 40.
Supergoop also added some notable names to its board of directors and investors, such as Michael Spillane, a former product executive at Nike, Sara Blakely, the founder of Spanx, and Whitney Wolfe Herd, the founder of Bumble.
Sequino said she was excited to lead Supergoop’s next chapter of growth and to reach more consumers around the world. “We have only scratched the surface, and Lisa’s energy, expertise, and excitement make her the perfect partner for us as category creators on this global stage, as we continue creating a brighter future for all, around the world,” she said.
