Ownership & Funding
Who owns BROAD BROWSE
This site is published by a small independent company owned by the working editors who run it. There is no parent group, no outside shareholder pulling the strings, no political party’s media arm, and no larger business with interests in the sectors we cover. The people who own this publication are the people doing the work, and that is deliberate.
The company is registered where its founders are established and files what the law of that place requires. We do not print the registration particulars on this page, mainly because that material gets scraped and reused in impersonation attempts against readers. If you have a genuine reason to need them, such as serving a legal notice or verifying us for a transparency body, write to support@broadbrowse.com and we will send them.
Because the owners are the editors, no proprietor calls this desk to lean on a story. It also means there is nowhere to hide. If BROAD BROWSE publishes something indefensible, the people who own it published it.
No state money, no party, no hidden backer
We take no money from any government, party, campaign or political organisation, and we have no affiliation with any of them. Election advertising that hides who is paying for it is refused, and we would rather take the revenue hit than let our inventory quietly become someone’s undeclared campaign spend.
There is no secret investor and no benefactor whose interests we are quietly protecting. If that ever changed, if an outside investor took a stake or a backer of any kind appeared, this page would say so before the arrangement had any effect on what we publish, not in a footnote discovered later.
Where the money comes from
Advertising is our primary source of revenue and, at present, close to all of it. Most of that is programmatic display, filled through advertising exchanges, with a smaller amount sold directly. Occasional clearly labelled sponsored posts and newsletter sponsorship make up the rest. The rules those sales run under, including the categories we refuse, are on our advertise page.
There is no paywall, no subscription and no reader payment of any kind. Where we use affiliate links, meaning links that may earn us a small commission if you buy something, they are disclosed in the story, and they never decide what we cover or what we conclude. A review’s verdict is not for sale, and a commission does not turn a bad product into a good one in our pages.
The disclosure that matters most
Because we are paid by advertising, we owe you an unusually clear account of how that money is kept away from the journalism. The separation holds not because we are large enough to wall departments off from each other, but because the rules are few and absolute.
- No advertiser sees a story before it is published, and none is told what is coming.
- No advertiser can soften, delay or kill a story, and asking is not a negotiation, it is a no.
- When a company that advertises with us becomes the subject of coverage, the story discloses the relationship.
- On programmatic inventory we usually do not even know which advertiser bought a given impression, which is inconvenient for selling and useful for everyone else.
How that independence works inside the newsroom, day to day, is described in our editorial standards.
Conflicts of interest
The people who own and run this site hold no stakes in the companies on our beat and take no paid work from parties, governments or businesses we cover. Where anyone here has a financial, family or close personal interest in a story, they declare it and hand the story to someone else, and the handover is recorded rather than agreed quietly.
Press trips, hosted stays, gifts and freebies are the routine offer in this business. We pay our own way or we do not go. On the rare occasion an arrangement is accepted on terms we can defend, the story states who paid. Review samples and press access to events we cover are accepted and disclosed where our standards require.
Keeping this page honest
If the ownership changes, if an investor appears, if we take on a new revenue stream, or if any single source of money grows large enough to matter, this page is updated first, before any announcement elsewhere. Earlier versions are kept and sent on request, and errors on this page are fixed the way errors in our reporting are, which our corrections policy describes.
If anything here reads as thin or evasive to you, say so. Write to support@broadbrowse.com and ask the specific question. Transparency pages have a way of ageing into wallpaper, and the surest way to keep this one accurate is a reader who actually reads it. The wider account of who we are is on our about page.
